Recently I found myself in a difficult emotional place. I have been in education and human services for nearly 25 years. I also hail from a family full of preachers and pastors and thus, I have spent my life serving in some capacity or another.
Now, don't get me wrong, that statement isn't a complaint, it's just the truth. In fact, it's a truth I am grateful for. I know you are thinking to yourself 🤔, who would be grateful for THAT? But, in actuality I am a 2 on an Enneagram and an INFJ on a Myers-Briggs so... I WAS BORN TO SERVE! What I wish I'd learned sooner is that those of us who are built this way and those of us who spend our lives in service require an elevated level of care, both self care and caring loved ones, partners and friends. This is because the act of true service requires a constant pour out of one's soul AND our souls don't get refilled by accident! Our refills must not only be FREQUENT, they must be intentional. Shout Out to my girl Dr. to be Kiese Vita for initially introducing me to this idea. For most women of color... Black women specifically and women of color in general, Self Care can be a RADICAL act! But it is a worthwhile act.
I discovered this yoga video after a meeting I had scheduled that gave me physical symptoms of anxiety. By the time the meeting was over my chest and my neck were tight, my breathing was labored and I felt light-headed. I had promised myself that I would try to find a remedy to these symptoms without a prescription from a doctor but with the use of a natural remedy instead. I am grateful to say... It WORKED and thus I invite you to try it!
